DETECTION OF MESOTHELIOMA

Asbestos fibres - a single fibre is believed t...Image via Wikipedia
How is Mesothelioma detected? The biggest problem with detecting and effectively diagnosing Mesothelioma is the fact that it can be dormant in the system for up to fifty years. Studies show that for this reason, over 75% of today's Mesothelioma patients are men ages 55 and older. By that time, Mesothelioma is in its late stages, which makes any treatment tedious, and sometimes unsuccessful.

Even if one experiences symptoms of Mesothelioma, the most experienced doctor may still have trouble making a diagnosis. This is due to the fact that Mesothelioma shares some symptoms of many more common diseases, including the common cold. There are some tests and studies being run to develop better and faster ways to diagnose and effectively treat Mesothelioma.

One thing that will greatly increase a patient's chances of being diagnosed and treated easily is knowing that you or someone you know has been exposed to asbestos. Even if there is ontly the smallest molecule of asbestos in their clothing, there is still a risk. One should inform their doctor so that they can run tests during regular check-ups, in order to catch Mesothelioma in its early stages. They can also take X-rays or CT Scans to determine what type of Mesothelioma is present, and then discuss different options.

  2. Recent research has found a number of tests that may offer doctors the ability to detect mesothelioma much earlier in their patient's lives.
